The house remained uninhabited for many years. Very heavy work was carried out under the energetic leadership of an architect from Oléron accompanied by local companies. Keeping the original elements when they are beautiful and when possible, rethinking the contemporary circulation of a family of 4 grown children and their friends and children, recreating welcoming spaces, resurrecting the garden: it took a little over two years to tame MaisonMer.
A large kitchen has been fitted out, ceilings rediscovered, a fireplace moved. All the bedrooms now have a private bathroom with a walk-in shower and private toilet; each has its own personality.
Dining room:
The original ceiling was rediscovered during the work. The room has kept its paneling and parquet flooring. A large French window opens onto the garden and the gallery overlooking it. This is where we welcome you for breakfast or dinner at the "Table d'hôtes", by reservation on special days.
Living room
Between the dining room and the billiard-library, the living room is the beating heart of the house in winter: a large fireplace in light grey and white veined marble comes alive with beautiful flames in the evening. The return from a walk in the forest or on the large beaches of Oléron is particularly pleasant. Board games are at your disposal and the sofas and their cushions welcome guests for a moment of reading or conviviality.
Billiard library
A game of pool? Or darts? For those waiting their turn at the garden pétanque…
A large library offers books on different themes: history, gastronomy, literature, travel, decoration, comics and detective novels, in French and English.
